Introductions
were made around the table and minutes distributed to discuss the
findings that we have at present.
Dawn
distributed and discussed documentation for establishing the need
for a youth center - data deemed necessary for the local community,
as well as for grant writers. She sought input for any additional
data that would be helpful for increasing community perspective and/or
foundation support. She referenced a youth survey completed a couple
years ago that she would try to locate. She recommended/suggested
a community assessment, using an evidence-based assessment tool with
which she is familiar, that uses 10 identified sectors of the community
from which to gauge community awareness for the need.
Misty
reported that the application has been submitted to the National Guard
for soliciting their support with the building project She indicated
that, if granted, it's looking like summer of 2008 for this project,
unless the Generals move it to an earlier date. The Boys and Girls
Club organization has filed for their 501c3 status and the various
state forms necessary to begin their development.
Mary
indicated a willingness to assist with the 501c3 application for the
youth center, but that her availability will be greatly reduced in
January with the beginning of tax season. She feels confident that
we have enough information available now to successfully complete
the process.
Joe encouraged
those in attendance to add their names to the various areas of the
strategic planning guide that is being developed in an effort to continue
progress in each of the identified areas of need.
He gave
a reminder and encouraged participation in the Lunch
to Launch fundraiser planned for noon on Wednesday, December 13th
at the Civic Auditorium Ballroom, where the vision of a permanent
youth center in The Dalles will be cast to the community and support
for the interim center be raised. Tables are being sold for $100 to
include 8 tickets, or individual tickets may be purchased for $5.
The Kiwanis, Lions and Rotary clubs are working together to host the
luncheon. Bring your checkbook and plan to participate.
